The process
First of all we talk with you about your needs. Why do you want a web site? What do you want it to do? We will often ask if there are some sites that you have seen that you like. This gives us a feel for what you are looking for, without you having to put it into words.
The Website Design Comp
Once we have a basic idea of what you like in general terms (overall layout, colors, etc.) we will make a “comp” ( a website mock up) in PhotoShop.
In this comp, you will see our idea of how your new site should look. Including navigational menu colors, placement, orientation and effects (if any).
This comp will usually be in JPG format that we can either email to you or place it on our website as a link for you to look at and evaluate.
At this point you can let us know your thoughts on the overall design, color preferences and menu considerations.
Putting it All Together
With your final approval we start to build your site. (You can view some of our work here.)
If you have photographs that you would like on the website, we will incorporate them. If you have none, that is fine also, we have access to hundreds of thousands of stock photos that will surely enhance your site.
With input from you, we will select the most often used search terms (keywords) for your industry or business and incorporated them into the site. This will give you the best possible start at getting good search engine results. Search Engine Optimization is built into every site we design.
Great Design
The overall design is absolutely the most important part of your website. The color scheme must be harmonious. The colors can be light and airy or bold and vibrant, but have to be complimentary. We always begin a design comp with harmonious color scheme.
From here we balance out your content with “white space” (not necessarily white, the page you are looking at now is black and dark grays). Why do we need “white space” ?
Overloading a page with graphics and text can overwhelm your visitor. You want them to feel comfortable, not claustrophobic.
A extremely important part of good web design is your navigation system or “menu”. Have you ever been to a website where you have to hunt for the “Contact us” page?
Your typical website visitor knows that they have hundreds, if not thousands of choices when looking for a product or service. If they can’t find it in a few seconds they hit the “back button” and are they are gone.
