How an online book promotion works

In order to promote a new book, many elements need to be designed and built. The landing page is the most important component. This is where all the traffic is directed from email, TV, radio and webinars.

The overall goal is to sell the author’s book. In order to do this, we partner with other authors and organizations that have large opt-in mailing lists. These partners send either a solo email announcing the new book, or include a summary in their weekly eNewsletter or eZine. These partners often will provide a downloadable gift or bonus (like an audio recording, ebook or free subscription). If enough partners agree to promote the book, the result is millions of emails going out in one day, that will hopefully bring the book high up on the bestseller lists at Amazon and the New York Times.

The landing page can have its own domain name (book-name.com), or it can reside on the author’s website (author-name.com/newbook).

On the landing page, there is sales copy, testimonials from well known authors or specialists. There are also very prominent “Buy” buttons. These buy buttons will take the visitor to the exact page where the book is offered for sale. We will typically use Amazon, or Barnes & Noble or Borders, but other online bookstores can be used.

After the book has been purchased, we have a small form that asks the purchaser to fill out, usually name, email address and sales confirmation number. When they have entered this, the website directs them to the bonus gift redemption page. On this page are descriptions of the partners and their gifts. At the bottom of each partner box is a link to the downloadable gift.
